GLOSSARY

Library Mail

Justin WinterBy · Updated August 28, 2026

A discounted USPS mail class for books, sound recordings, and other materials shipped between schools, libraries, and similar qualifying institutions.

Library Mail offers rates similar to Media Mail but is restricted to loans and exchanges between libraries, schools, academic institutions, and a small set of other qualifying organizations — not to the general public shipping books to each other.

Like Media Mail, it is a rate class for physical media, not a class a document or letter can travel under.
